After his recovery, the series returned to production
Synopsis
A retired CIA agent is hunted by both the agency he once worked for and his own nightmares when an unknown man suddenly visits him after nearly three decades. Production was shut down in March 2020 due to government restrictions. During that time, Jeff Bridges was diagnosed with and then treated for non-Hodgkin lymphoma.
Appeared at the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards (2024)
Bridges referred to the return as a “long weekend” return in a podcast in July 2022. This show starts off super strong with big action and a slow-paced backstory that leaves you very intrigued. Once you catch up by episode 4, things don’t go so well.
Lithgow and Bridges are excellent
Shawcat is kind of an anchor, delivering every line almost monotonously. None of the characters are particularly engaging. While the plot development and action slow down after a few episodes, a lot of awkward dialogue takes its place.
I will continue watching, hoping things improve
It seems clear that the writers were trying to recreate the style of The Counselor, a screenplay written by Cormac McCarthy, but they didn’t quite succeed. The more literary style of The Counselor left many viewers confused. How much more so will a bad copy.
