However, the director Walter Salles develops the theme delicately, presenting us a friendly and loving family that longs for the return of the missing father and husband. Eunice’s pain can be understood in many moments, as well as imagine how cruel the military dictatorship was. There are bittersweet moments in the film, and it creates an atmosphere in which you feel close to this family, a place full of grace and tenderness. Fernanda Torres’ performance is amazing, she really deserves all the nominations she will receive this season of awards. Selton Mello also brilliantly played Rubens Paiva. The entire cast is great, and we also have the gorgeous Fernando Montenegro as the grown-up Eunice Paiva. The film is technically beautiful and amazingly conveys the look of Rio de Janeiro in the 70s. I think I will express the opinion of many Brazilians if I say that it would be very important if Brazil were nominated for an Oscar with this film, but, despite this, it is definitely worth watching, it is a recent masterpiece of Brazilian cinema. it raises awareness, delights, and can also bring you to tears.
