A prequel to the original Dune, telling the story of how the Rossak Brotherhood evolved into the Bene Gesserit. The incident with Valya Harkonnen using her voice comes from an event called “Mentats of Dune.” The three books intertwine in the development of the Brotherhood, the Mentats, the Navigators, and the Bitch Doctors. This spin-off is more like Game of Thrones than Dune.
It’s a great spin-off of a popular film series
That being said, Dune: Prophecy is everything I expected and more. Let me start by saying that I’ve never read the source material or seen the original film. My experience with Dune is based on the two Dune films that came out in recent years, starring Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya.
I really enjoyed both of them, so I had high hopes for this series
Those two films (especially Dune: Part 2) are two of my favorite films I’ve seen in recent years. Dune: Prophecy is a series set 10,000 years before the beginning of the Dune films, and tells the story of how the Harkonnen sisters started the Bene Gesserit as part of a fight against forces that threaten the future of humanity. The series may be more Game of Thrones than Dune, but it’s still… a lot of fun.
You don’t have to have seen both Dune movies to enjoy it, but you’ll definitely enjoy it more if you do
The most important thing about this show is that it does exactly what it sets out to do, which is deepen our understanding of the Bene Gesserit.
