Three members of a large Afghan family start their lives anew in Iran as refugees, not knowing that they will face a years-long struggle to “be home”.. Watched it at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival. Told in three stories, “In the Land of Brothers” is able to capture the essence, complexities and heartbreaking scenarios of political conflicts, relationships, culture and the harshness of reality. The filmmakers were able to capture the themes, tone, and script for each of the three stories with good emotions, interesting characters, and moments that felt tense and depressing without feeling sentimental or over the top. Each of the characters and the script is handled with maturity, and all the actors’ performances are good. They really revealed the emotions between the characters and the essence of the message and the purpose of the film. The cinematography, production and soundtrack are excellent. There were touching moments, and I was sad to watch it. For me personally, the first and third stories remain the most impressive. Although the second one has some flaws in the pace, it was still good. Overall, the film claims to be another good Iranian film.
