Britain allowed filming inside the Foreign Secretary’s office, an honor rarely granted for a film or movie production, especially an American one
Synopsis
In the midst of an international crisis, career diplomat Kate Wyler finds herself in a high-level job she is not suited for, with tectonic implications for her marriage and political future. The producers convinced the American and British governments to let them use real-world locations as filming locations for the series, including the newly opened American Embassy (in Nine Elms) in 2018.

The only unavailable location was Winfield House, the real-life residence of the American ambassador. Although it is accurately described as occupying the largest residential plot (11 acres) in London after Buckingham Palace, the producers used a country house outside the city for filming purposes.
I’m so glad I did because it was awesome
I have to admit that I wasn’t planning on watching The Diplomat, but after hearing so many great things about it and reading all the great reviews, I thought I’d give it a shot. I’m actually surprised by how much I enjoyed it.
I was hooked from the first episode
While Keri Russell was great in The Americans, I thought it was more about the writing than the acting, so I wasn’t really sure if she and Rufus Sewell could carry a series as leads, but they absolutely do, they’re both fantastic here. The chemistry between these two is what makes this show so good.
