Here is not a film for everyone
It tries something different, with a single focused camera angle and a story that unfolds over hundreds (or millions) of years. But that’s also part of the problem that prevents it from excelling.
It also takes a while before we get to the heart of the story
We get little time with each point in the story, with most scenes taking 1-5 minutes before moving on to the next scene. If it had been a little more focused on our core group of characters, the ending would have had a much greater impact.
It’s also a bit overdone with how much is happening in one space
There was also too much CGI, which felt crude, and the focus on putting the characters right in front of the camera for scenes felt a bit too forced. Ultimately, ‘Here’ is an ambitious film that ultimately fails to deliver a fully satisfying story, as it’s too concerned with its idea of showing you everything that happened in that one place and making the camera angle the main focal point of the story.
