Rona: High in grandiose moments
Synopsis
After surviving life on the outskirts of London, Rona struggles to come to terms with her troubled past. In hopes of recovery, she returns to the wild beauty of the Scottish Orkney Islands, where she grew up. This is the first time Papa Westray has been filmed outside of Orkney.
My body is a continent
fresh air and freedom in the mountains, studying my personal geology. They grind their teeth like tectonic plates in their sleep. And when I blink, the Sun blinks too.
Lightning strikes every time you sneeze
My breath pushes the clouds across the sky and the waves roll onto the shore in time with a beating heart. The headlands of the islands rise above the sea like my limbs in a bathtub. My freckles are famous landmarks and my tears, rivers.
And when I have an orgasm, an earthquake comes
One With the Wind was created by John Gürtler and Jan Miserre. Saoirse Ronan could easily make a second career narrating nature documentaries. Never underestimate how difficult it is to play the various stages of drunkenness, addiction and sobriety, and Ronan pulls it off.
The colors and textures were just amazing, especially with regards to perspective and memory
Films with a different cinematic style are becoming rarer, so I am very grateful for what Nora Fonscheidt has accomplished with her visual storytelling. Obviously, it’s Saoirse’s performance, but the supporting cast is perfect, especially Stephen Dillane and Saskia Reeves as her parents. Paapa Essideu has such a soft look on screen but the camera just loves him.
